Description: Your greatest enemy isn't what you fight, but what you fear.

Elizabeth Grey is one of the king's best witch hunters, devoted to rooting out witchcraft and doling out justice. But when she's accused of being a witch herself, Elizabeth is arrested and sentenced to burn at the stake.

Salvation comes from a man she thought was her enemy. Nicholas Perevil, the most powerful and dangerous wizard in the kingdom, offers her a deal: he will save her from execution if she can break the deadly curse that's been laid upon him.

But Nicholas and his followers know nothing of Elizabeth's witch hunting past--if they find out, the stake will be the least of her worries. And as she's thrust into the magical world of witches, ghosts, pirates, and one all-too-handsome healer, Elizabeth is forced to redefine her ideas of right and wrong, of friends and enemies, and of love and hate.

Virginia Boecker weaves a riveting tale of magic, betrayal, and sacrifice in this unforgettable fantasy debut.

This was a Christmas present from my amazing husband. I picked it up and within the first chapter I was ordering book two from Amazon.

The Good
This book was extremely well written for a debut novel. I loved the characters and how they meshed together.
Elizabeth starts out as an ordinary hero and I was worried she would be cookie cutter and fall into the normal realms. But she didn't she goes through some serious growth in this book and I love it.

Caleb is her best friend and the one you may think would be the love interest. And I did for about a moment and then he just abandoned her. And when he sees her again he acts like she should forgive him. He knows nothing about girls clearly!
“I'll tell the others I lost you." His voice gruff, and in it I can hear all the emotion he despises, all the emotion he's trying so hard to contain. "And it won't be a lie.”
Caleb you hurt me!

Fifer is the next person in this wonderful cast and I love her!   Shes a spit fire and has an attitude that just makes you want to know her personally.

John: What can I say. I wanted him to just pop out of this book and take care of me. He was so sweet and kind and his reaction of Elizabeth and her secret just made me so happy.

Nicolas. This man reminded me so much of Dumbledore! He was wise and smart and just an all around epic wizard.

The plot of this book was also amazing it took twists and turns that kept me reading. I would actually get frustrated when I had to put it down.

The cover is also amazing which makes this book look amazing. You just want to yank it off the shelf and hug it!

The Bad.
Okay this one is actually hard.  Because there was nothing bad about this book. Oh wait I know. The bad it ended too soon! I love this series so much.

I highly recommend it!
